The Lake District National Park provides an excellent
introduction to the more adventurous/arduous side of mountain biking. We
will introduce several excellent circular routes of various lengths with minimal
tarmac sections, the routes range from the relatively gentle, most are mid
length over undulating terrain (think mountain), and one extreme route for
good measure. You can start anywhere along the routes but for
convenience we will group them as starting at Buttermere,
Ennerdale (Bowness Knott) and Wasdale Head.
If you are not familiar with
the area, and even if you are, I recommend the use of the Ordnance Survey Maps OL 4 and OL 6 which cover
the north western
and south western Lake District.
If you have any problems or comments regarding the condition of these
routes, surfaces, waymarking, obstructions etc please contact the
relevant Authority; for the roads - Cumbria County Council, for the
bridleways - the Lake District National Park Authority.
